Wide receiver Dacoven Bailey has been kicked off the Rutgers football team after he was charged with sexual assault in Texas.
A Rutgers spokesman told media outlets that Bailey had been dismissed from both the football team and university in January.
Bailey, 19, allegedly was one of four men to sexually assault a 15-year-old girl in Pilot Point, Texas, in July, as first reported by KXII in Sherman, Texas.
He was booked in Denton County Sheriff’s Office on Dec. 29 and released the next day on $20,000 bond, according to online jail records.
Bailey had nine receptions for 122 yards and one touchdown for the Scarlet Knights last season.
Dacoven Bailey was a well-known Pilot Point football player whose speed made him a Division I football player.
Now, he’s accused of rape and is the only one the 15-year-old victim could identify, telling police the man who raped her had a football scholarship to college.
“I had no idea of any of it, neither did he. Not until December,” said Shileta Bailey.
Her son, 19-year-old Dacoven Bailey, is just one of the men accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in July at a party in Pilot Point.
“It’s heartbreaking. I mean I do understand that with the world is going, there is a lot of things that happen to young ladies and young girls,” she said.
