A student at Ranger College is in the Eastland County Jail for reportedly sexually assaulting a fellow female student over the weekend, according to the Ranger Police Department.

Joey Hernandez, 20, of Bastrop, was arrested on Tuesday for sexual assault, according to the Eastland County Sheriff’s Office.

Hernandez is listed on Ranger College’s website as a member of the school’s 2017-2018 men’s cross-country team.

According to the Ranger Police Department, Hernandez is a current student at Ranger College and the sexual assault happened on campus.

Ranger College President Dr. Bill Campion released a statement to KTXS News stating the school is “investigating a complaint in full partnership with the Ranger Police Department.”

Since this is an ongoing investigation, the Ranger Police Department told KTXS News that they will not be releasing the age of the female victim.

The Ranger Police Department said that they are waiting for the results of a sexual assault kit that was sent to the crime lab in Tarrant County.
